IOC Recommends Adding Baseball, Softball to Olympics

In four Olympic Games appearances, the USA Softball Women's National Team claimed three gold medals (1996, 2000, 2004) and one runner-up finish to Japan in 2008 while setting numerous international records and are one of the only two women's sports involved in the Olympic movement to capture three consecutive gold medals.

A number of news organizations reported in June that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board voted unanimously to recommend that baseball, softball, surfing, skateboarding, sport climbing and karate be included in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The IOC Executive Board will support the addition of those sports when it comes up for vote at the IOC meeting in Rio de Janeiro before the start of the Summer Olympics there.
