Goodyear Retires Spirit of Innovation
The Goodyear blimp is a familiar sight to anyone who’s ever been to a major sporting event or watched televised sports. The company recently retired one of its flying airships, the Spirit of Innovation, to introduce a modern fleet of blimps.
Spirit of Innovation was christened in 2006 in Akron, Ohio and operated at the Goodyear Airship Base in Pompano Beach, FL until 2015. It completed its career in Carson, California after serving 11 years covering NASCAR, NCAA and Super Bowl seasons. The blimp logged 34,000 flight hours on 5,800 flights, according to Goodyear.
The airship will be replaced by Wingfoot Two by the end of 2017.
