Richmond Raceway Enhances Infield With $30 Million Project

RICHMOND, Va., – The Richmond Raceway and International Speedway Corporation (ISC) are spending $30 million on an infield redevelopment project that will bring new attractions and amenities for fans, teams, sponsors and others. The upgrades will be revealed at Richmond Raceway’s first NASCAR weekend, Sept. 21-22, 2018.

Named Richmond Raceway Reimagined, the redesign will modernize the infield, giving fans a closer view of NASCAR Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garages. Fans will be able to view activities from a walkway as teams run through inspections stations.

Richmond Raceway Reimagined is a commitment by ISC to the future of the sport and the iconic racing experience in Richmond,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “The track has been a racing destination for over 70 years, and this investment will help ensure the bright future of the facility for the next 70 years.”

In addition to the walkway viewing areas, social and engagement areas and concession areas will be enhanced. The Gatorade Victory lane will also move closer to the grandstand giving fans a better look at race winners and entertainment programs.

Additional amenities include a relocated tram route to move fans closer to the front of the track, a pedestrian tunnel, 80 new RV spaces, infield drainage, a vehicle crossover gate on the backstretch and an 80-person club experience with roof access overlooking Victory Lane.

“This is a great day for ISC and Richmond Raceway, and even more importantly for the great racing fans in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Lesa France Kennedy, ISC CEO. “We are always seeking ways to provide unique fan experiences at our facilities and this project is certainly a terrific example. Richmond Raceway has an incredible history and we look forward to its bright future engaging fans in a new way with this infield redevelopment.”
