USA Triathlon Offers Grants To Support Triathlon As Emerging Sport
COLORADO SPRINGS—USA Triathlon and USA Triathlon Foundation announced the first eight collegiate institutions that will benefit from a share of the $2.6 million, multi-year Women’s Triathlon Emerging Sport Grant, created to drive the establishment of NCAA women’s varsity triathlon programs.
The funding program—the first of its kind ever offered to an NCAA emerging sport—is being provided by the USA Triathlon Foundation, with approximately $480,000 to be awarded this year and a total of $980,000 through the 2017-2018 season. Additional institutions are in the evaluation process for this year, with further allocations likely to be awarded and applied to the 2015-16 season and beyond.
Among the schools receiving grants are Arizona State University, East Tennessee State University, Black Hills State University (S.D.), Drury University (Mo.), Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.), University of West Alabama, Concordia University Wisconsin and North Central College (Ill.).
