Synchronized Skating Championships Returning To Hershey Harrisburg, Pa.
HERSHEY, Pa.—After a two-year break, the US Figure Skating Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships will return to Giant Center in January 2017.
Co-hosted by the Central Pennsylvania and Hershey Figure Skating Clubs, the event is expected to draw nearly 200 teams from the East Coast.
Held during the Hershey Harrisburg region’s tourism off-season, the event will generate an estimated $1.5 million in economic impact with the area’s hotels, attractions, restaurants and shops.
In other local news, plans at Penn State Harrisburg include upgraded facilities and expanded sports programs to give tournament and sports event organizers more site options in the coming years.
A new artificial surface field with seating for 1,000 or more would allow for the addition of lacrosse and field hockey, and a state-of-the-art track would give the track and field team a new permanent home.
Penn State Harrisburg has recently played host to the Keystone State Games, US Junior Nationals Basketball and Triple Crown Baseball.
