BATON ROUGE, La.—The 2013 National Dancesport Championship
competition for the Senior IV age division will be held in Baton Rouge June
28-29, marking the first time a national championship event in dancesport has
been held in the state.

The governing body for amateur dancesport, USA Dance,
selected Baton Rouge for the Senior IV competition, which will be a part of the
annual USA Dance Gumbo DanceSport Championships at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The
Senior IV division is for amateur couples aged 65 and up.

The Gumbo Championships is a national qualifying event for
USA Dance in all other categories, skill levels, and age divisions of
dancesport, which is the competitive form of amateur ballroom dancing. This is
the 14th year of the competition.

As a national qualifying event, the Gumbo attracts dancers
from throughout the country to compete over a period of three days.  Last
year 342 dancers from 31 states participated.

Dancesport competitions involve 15 different dances, such as
waltz, foxtrot, tango, quickstep, swing, rumba, and cha cha, including both the
American and the International Styles of the various dances.  Competitive
events are also organized by skill levels and age divisions.
