U.S. Women Sweep Gold at Mountain Bike World Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — U.S. riders at the second World Cup of the season in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic took gold medals for the Women’s races. The streak started during the short-track race, where Chloe Woodruff of Prescott, Ariz., won the race by eight seconds. Fellow rider, Kate Courtney of San Francisco placed fourth in a sprint finish and Keegan Swenson of Park City, Utah was the top male finisher in 13th place.

Haley Batten of Park City took gold in the U23 Women’s race the following day.

In elite races, Kate Courtney won another first place after overcoming a flat tire.

The races marked the end of the first half of the Olympic qualification period. The U.S. Women are currently in second place behind Switzerland. The top two ranked countries at the end of the qualification period will receive the maximum number of three slots to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, while third through ninth will receive two and the remaining countries one slot.
