BATON ROUGE, LA — Before Southern Louisiana made headlines with its flooding issues in August, the area boasted a productive summer season for sports that brought more than 27,000 athletic visitors to the city and generated an estimated more than $10.8 million in economic impact.

There were 14 sporting competition tournaments over the course of 39 days that ranged from youth track & field and martial arts to a ballroom dancing competition and baseball tournaments.

So far this year the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation has brought in 47 supported events that have brought more than 100,000 sports travelers impact. That is well ahead of last year’s overall total of #34.4, with five months remaining.
